Right-wing extremist MPs launch parallel investigation into Trump’s shooting

The two House of Representatives investigations into the attempted assassination of Donald Trump took place in parallel on Monday.

Why are there two investigations, and why are they competing with each other?, you may ask. Well, the first is the official bipartisan task force that the House of Representatives unanimously decided By the end of July. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson did the right thing He then worked with Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries to appoint members – mostly serious Republicans – to investigate the events of July 13.

On Monday, this Control panel met with police in Butler, Pennsylvania, and toured the rally site where the assassination attempt had taken place. At the same time, a few hundred miles away, some of the least serious members of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives organized a forum in Washington, DC, and called it a “hearing,” the first of their so-called “Parallel study.”

“Although this is the first hearing … it will not be the last,” far-right Rep. Cory Mills said during the event. “This is a message to the entire Congress. … There are members (and) conservatives who will not be silenced.”

This “parallel investigation” is not a big one. It involves many of the usual Republican bigwigs — including Representatives Matt Gaetz and Eli Crane — and unlike the real task force, it cannot issue subpoenas. And it will have to rely on whistleblowers and members of the public for information.

Worse, it is based on the unfounded assumption that the Secret Service – which reports to President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security – “didn’t try to send its best” to protect Trump and that it intentionally allowed communications and surveillance failures at the rally. In other words, let the conspiracy theories run wild!

Undeterred by this clown show, the real Task Force got down to business on Wednesday, following the above-mentioned trip to Pennsylvania. The co-chairs, Republican Representative Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania and Democratic Representative Jason Crow of Colorado, issued a comprehensive request for information in a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Acting Director of the Secret Service Ronald Rowe Jr.

“The Task Force is investigating all actions of all agencies, departments, officers and employees of the federal government, state and local law enforcement agencies, or any other state or local agency or private entity or individual” related to the incident, Crow and Kelly wrote.

Meanwhile, the problem children are fuming over not being selected for the actual jury.

“Three snipers in Congress – myself, Cory Mills and Morgan Luttrell – (and) none of us were appointed to the task force,” Crane said. said in an interview last week. “You would think that one of us would have been appointed to the task force, but no, the people on it were politically selected.”

And as another slap in the face for Johnson, Crane said They “simply do not trust the leadership to tell the American people the truth.”

Johnson also has a small problem with his supposedly serious members of the real task force. Only three of the seven The Republicans were present at the site visit on Monday, as were all six Democrats.
