Each of those three veterans was released on Tuesday. The Broncos couldn’t find a trade partner for Patrick, and he could challenge the Lions’ No. 3 wide receiver position. Denver got the player Detroit wanted for that job, Josh Reynoldsas a free agent. Peoples-Jones re-signed with the Lions in the offseason, but the 2023 trade did not get the job during the preseason. Detroit will gamble on Robinson, whose performance has dropped significantly since his last appearance in the NFC North.

Robinson, who threw 1,000-yard passes twice with the Bears, received the franchise tag in 2021. He did not impress with the tag and quickly reached the post-prime position in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. The Rams had given Robinson a three-year, $46.5 million contract in 2022; he did not finish the season. With the Steelers, the former Jaguars and Bears star player made 34 catches for 280 yards last season. The tall passer, who turned 31 last week, moved to the Giants in the middle of the offseason but was unable to secure a spot on the roster.

This trio joins the experienced receiver/returner Caliph Raymond and UDFA Isaiah Williams as the Lions’ wideouts. Detroit had only four WRs on its active roster. Patrick, who has recovered from torn ACL and Achilles tendons that kept him out of the field in 2022 and 2023, is expected to move up to the 53-man unit soon. Robinson and Peoples-Jones, on the other hand, appear to be on the P-squad.
