Bengals sign Justin Rogers to practice squad after Dallas Cowboys release him

After roster cuts, several players were taken off the waivers list on Wednesday and the Cincinnati Bengals began the process of adding to their practice squad.

After acquiring KJ Henry from the Washington Commanders via waivers, the Bengals further strengthened their defensive line.

ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that the Bengals have signed former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Justin Rogers to their practice squad.

Rogers was selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by Dallas after spending two seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com viewed him as a sixth-round prospect in this year’s draft.

“Rogers is a ‘what you see is what you get’ nose tackle with a powerful frame and film full of fistfights where he dishes out as well as takes. He is built low to the ground and plays with an excellent anchor to fend off block completions and stay on his feet,” Zerlein wrote. “He has decent length for his size, but not enough to consistently fend off blocks, although he does have the strength to stack up individual blocks. Rogers is a drain-clogging nose capable of clogging the A-gaps for teams looking for depth and helping slow down the run.”

Many thought the Cowboys would try to keep Rogers on their practice squad, but instead he’s going to Cincinnati, where they’re clearly interested in strengthening the defensive line.

Henry was signed because his former Clemson teammate Myles Murphy will begin the season on the injured list and plans to return to the team. Defensive tackle McKinley Jackson, a third-round pick by the Bengals, is still working on his recovery from injury, so Rogers’ move could be in response to that.

Rogers takes the 13th spot on the Bengals’ practice squad, leaving room for the addition of three more players.
