Bristol Palin says Maksim Chmerkovskiy ‘hated’ her on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Bristol Palin’s time on “Dancing with the Stars” was no picnic.

The daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin did not receive a warm welcome from international ballroom dancing champion Maksim Chmerkovskiy when she took part in the celebrity dance competition 14 years ago.

During a new interview on Cheryl Burke’s podcast “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans,” Palin was asked “who rolled their eyes” when she and her pro partner Mark Ballas survived an elimination.

“Oh, Maks?” the “Teen Mom OG” star replied, referring to Chmerkovskiy. “He hated me so much.”

“Why did he hate you?” asked Burke, who also appears as a professional dancer in the series.

“I don’t know, probably just because we kept going,” Palin said, adding that he was “nice at first, but … as we went along, I definitely felt the tension from him.”

In a statement, a spokesman for Chmerkovskiy said the 44-year-old professional “does not hate anyone” and described the allegations as “a misrepresentation of his feelings.”

“I think he and everyone else in America thought 14 years ago that he and Brandy were on their way to winning this year, if not making it to the finals,” the statement continued. “So it was a bit of a disappointment when she beat him to the finals. It’s a competition. He’s very competitive and he took it seriously.”

Palin, a mother of three, competed in the 11th season of the long-running ABC competition series in 2010, where she and Ballas finished in third place despite receiving consistently mediocre ratings from the judges. Audience votes also play a big role in who stays and who goes.

Two years later, Palin and her ex-husband Dakota Meyer competed in “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” before being eliminated in the fourth week.
