iPhone 17: Everything we know so far about the iPhone 2025
It doesn’t take long for rumors about the iPhone to start circulating. It’s one of the most iconic and influential tech devices of all time, and everyone wants to know what’s coming next. The fact that Apple is so secretive only makes the rumors and leaks about the iPhone even more interesting.
So it should come as no surprise that rumors, leaks, and information about the iPhone 17 started circulating months before the iPhone 16 was officially announced. Here’s everything we know so far, but don’t take any of this as confirmed information: Even if early rumors are true, plans can change, and nothing is certain until Apple announces it.
Updated on August 28: According to a report, the iPhone 17 will have 12GB of shared storage.
iPhone 17: Release date
Here’s what we know: The new iPhone lineup is almost always announced in September – usually on a Tuesday in the second week of September, to be exact. So we expect the iPhone 17 lineup to be announced on or around September 9, 2025. Here’s when the latest models were released:
- iPhone15: 12 September 2023
- iPhone14: 7 September 2022
- iPhone13: 14 September 2021
- ITelephone 12: October 13, 2020 (delayed due to Covid)
Typically, iPhone pre-orders begin the Friday after the announcement, and the phones ship a week later. Occasionally, certain models may ship a few weeks later than others due to production issues.
iPhone 17: Price
We haven’t heard yet if the iPhone 17 range will cost the same as the iPhone 16 range, which hasn’t even been announced at this point. A rumor from a popular leaker on Weibo says that the “Plus” model will be replaced by the new “Slim” model, which will cost more than the Pro Max, although it won’t have the same processor and RAM as the Pro models. The alleged prices would be:
- iPhone17: 6.27-inch LTPO display, A19/8GB ($799)
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.27-inch LTPO display, A19 Pro/12GB ($1,099)
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.86-inch LTPO display, A19 Pro/12GB ($1,199)
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.65-inch LTPO display, A19/8GB ($1,299)
This would represent a significant upward shift in overall iPhone pricing: the Pro model would become $100 more expensive and a new model would replace the Plus and cost $100 more than the Pro Max.
iPhone 17: Colors
We haven’t heard anything about what colors we can expect from the iPhone 17 range. The iPhone 16 is expected to launch in seven colors, with white and purple joining blue, pink, yellow, green and black. Additionally, Desert Yellow and Cement Gray are expected, which are said to be reminiscent of the classic gold and space gray options.
We have no rumors about the colors of the iPhone 17 and probably won’t until the iPhone 16 comes out.

iPhone 17: New “Slim” model
For years, there have been rumors that Apple plans to launch a new model with higher-end features above the Pro Max. It looks like it could finally happen in 2025. Several analysts have reported that the existing Plus model will be replaced by a new “Slim” model with a larger screen size and a much thinner body. Analyst Jeff Pu was the first to report this change, and The Information later reported on the Slim model, stating that it would be a new, even more premium model that would sit above “Pro Max” in the lineup and would have a centered rear camera and a smaller Dynamic Island.
A recent video by Jon Prosser suggests that the slim iPhone will be called iPhone Air (we agree that makes sense) and will not be the most expensive in the seriesbut rather a mid-priced model that prioritizes form and design over specs, similar to the MacBook Air. In addition, an August 2024 report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed the new model would sit between the standard iPhone and the Pro: “If you want something fancier than a standard iPhone – but don’t really need the performance, screen size or cameras of a Pro model – you can get something that looks a lot cooler and still has the specs of a regular iPhone.”
A recent report suggested that Apple Do not use resin-coated copper components on the motherboard due to quality issues at the supplier. This was Apple’s way of reducing the internal space required. Therefore, it is unclear whether this will affect the overall thickness of the slim iPhone 17 model or not.
Apple jumped back on the thin bandwagon with the launch of the M4 iPad Pro in May. Rumors suggest that Apple will also launch a thinner Apple Watch and a thinner MacBook Pro in the coming months.
iPhone 17: Rumored new features
Rumour has it that all iPhone 17 models will have a 24MP front camera and the display always on is finally set to arrive on the non-Pro models. Some believe that ProMotion will also arrive on the non-Pro models, as the same LPTO technology that enables the Always-On Display enables ProMotion in Apple’s iPhone implementation. If true, it would be the first time Apple has offered ProMotion on a non-Pro device.
Apple is also reportedly working with Corning on a new anti-reflective and scratch-resistant glass for the iPhone 17 series.
A report from The Information claims that “at least one” model has a mechanical aperturewhich would be new for iPhones, but has so far been seen on a handful of Android phones.
We don’t know much about which chips will power the iPhone 17 line, but we expect the high-end models (Pro and possibly Slim) to have a A19Prowhile the non-Pro models will get either a variant of the A18 or a slightly stripped down version of the A19. Since Apple is expected to boost every iPhone 16 model to 8GB of RAM due to Apple Intelligence requirements, rumors suggest that Apple will increase the memory in the iPhone 17 Pro models to 12GB.
As for wireless connectivity, the cellular modem will likely continue to be supplied by Qualcomm; Apple’s own efforts to produce a top-notch 5G modem appear to have stalled and are unlikely to be ready in time for next year’s iPhone 17 lineup. Wi-Fi 7 support also seems likely.
