This week, Big Sky Resort announced that lift tickets now include access to the Lone Peak Tram. “The new tram has exceeded our expectations in every way. We promised to re-evaluate the tram experience every year. This move provides flexibility and added value to our product line while providing more guests access to Lone Peak,” said Troy Nedved, general manager of Big Sky Resort.

However, this change does not apply to Ikon, Mountain Collective and select Big Sky pass holders. Those with these passes will still be required to pay a car fee of $10 to $40 per ride. The daily fee varies based on demand and conditions.

Starting with the 2021-22 season, the tram will charge a separate fee because the original Lone Peak Tram, which only held 15 people, had longer waiting lines. However, the opening of the new Lone Peak Tram in the 2023–24 season resulted in shorter lift lines than its predecessor due to its larger capacity. The new cable car has resulted in a surprising number (almost a quarter) of people going up just for sightseeing. I imagine this percentage will increase once the Explorer gondola opens in the 2025-26 season. Since the top station will be close to the cable car, pedestrians will be able to use the cable car easily for the first time during the ski season.
