The community is “all coming together now” to celebrate the annual barn dance in Cornwall

The Friends of St. Martin (FOSM) celebrated a successful night of cowboy hats and stomping boots at their annual barn dance.

The event was held in a barn in Trewince and was very well attended by visitors and members of the public. Ages ranged from babies and toddlers to senior citizens – and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

The festivities began with young children dancing before the barn was filled with the rest of the participants, some of whom were “old hands” at barn dancing, while others had a more informal style.

During the final dance, “Strip the Willow,” the dancers were a little disorganized, but somehow everyone ended up where they were supposed to be, resulting in a sense of accomplishment and elation.

The FOSM expressed its thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

A spokesperson said: “FOSM would like to thank the following people who made the event possible.

“First and most importantly, I would like to thank Fran Alston and his family for the use of the venue, particularly following the sad and unexpected death of Johnny Alston last November.

“Also a big thank you to the Cornish Tinners Ceilidh Band for the lively music and instruction on the various dances, for the food from Kerra’s Catering and Helford Hog Roasts, the drinks from the Prince of Wales Inn horsebox and the ice cream from Gwella Dairy which we all very gratefully accepted.”

Thanks also went to Andrew and Julie Bray who supplied the straw bales for the seating and to the volunteers who worked efficiently in organising the event.

“Finally, my huge thanks go to everyone who supported the event and made it a very happy evening with lots of smiling faces and loud laughter – you made it a very special and unforgettable evening,” the spokesperson added.
