Eagles could target former 900-yard back to create more depth behind Saquon Barkley

Just because the cutbacks in the National Football League are behind us doesn’t mean there aren’t more changes to come.

National Football League franchises had to trim their rosters down to 53 players by Tuesday’s deadline. The Philadelphia Eagles had to make some very difficult decisions but were able to finalize their roster before the deadline.

That doesn’t mean the Eagles can’t do more, though. Hundreds of players were released on Tuesday and several others were traded. There’s a lot of interesting talent on the open market now.

If the Eagles are looking to add another player, it might make sense to add a running back. Philadelphia currently has only three running backs on the roster: Saquon Barkley, Kenneth Gainwell and Will Shipley.

Barkley has had a bit of an injury scare recently, so adding more depth might make sense. One player released on Tuesday who might make sense for the Eagles is former Cleveland Browns running back D’Onta Foreman. He was released before the deadline, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“The Browns reduced their roster to 53 and made several changes at the running back position – releasing D’Onta Foreman, moving Nick Chubb to the reserve/PUP position as expected and Nyheim Hines to the reserve/NFI position,” Pelissero said.

Foreman only played in nine games last season, but rushed for 425 yards and four touchdowns. In 2022, he played in all 17 games for the Carolina Panthers, rushing for 914 yards and five touchdowns. If the Eagles are looking for more depth at running back, Foreman should be considered.
