Flying Shoes Community Dance and Contras on September 6th
BELFAST – Let your shoes fly on Friday 6 September at the monthly community dance and contra dance, an evening of incredible socialising and music presented by Belfast Flying Shoes.
The intergenerational and chemical-free evening begins at 6pm when the All Comers Band warms up and selects pieces of music. The band is open to all ages, instruments and skill levels; pieces of music are posted on belfastflyingshoes.org. The easy-to-learn community dance, led by Chrissy Fowler and Lisa Newcomb, begins at 6:30pm. Families, new people and long-time dancers whirl around the dance floor.
This month’s contra dance at 8 p.m. will feature the music of Spintuition, with caller Maggie Robinson from Maine. In addition to being a gifted dance leader, Robinson teaches fiddle at the Maine Fiddle Camp and the 317 Main Community Music Center. The Spintution trio is comprised of talented young musicians from northern New England. Silas Hamilton, Samuel Foucher and Willy Clemetson from Belfast will bring the dancers to a state of joy.
First Church is located at 8 Court Street in Belfast. Admission is $15-20 (or $1 for children and $2 for adults participating in the community dance only). For more information, First Friday FAQs, and BFS Community Care policies, visit www.belfastflyingshoes.org or contact [email protected].
