Persona and Italian horror-inspired tactical RPG Demonschool postponed at the last minute

Demonschool – the upcoming role-playing game inspired by Persona and Italian horror films – has been postponed.

The game was originally scheduled to release next month, on September 13th, but after careful consideration, the team has decided to delay the launch to ensure the game reaches a higher standard.

“You never want to delay a game, but Demonschool means a lot to us. We really put everything we have into this project and as we got closer to release, we realized that meeting the September 13 deadline would inevitably mean a game with less content than we had originally envisioned,” developer Necrosoft Games said today.

It went on to say that the team could have shipped the game in September as originally planned, or delayed the release a little to “give us the opportunity to realize our bigger dreams.” The team chose the latter.

“Realistically, the player would never have known. It would have been a finished product regardless. But we would have known the game could have been more, and that’s the game we want to share,” the company wrote, adding that Demonschool’s publisher Ysbryd gave everyone involved the flexibility they needed.

While work on Demonschool continues behind the scenes, Necrosoft Games is also publishing some “short developer diaries” in the meantime to keep everyone up to date with the latest developments.

“We are sorry for those who are eagerly awaiting the game, but we really hope that all the additional content will make the wait worth it,” concluded Necrosoft Games. “2024 was a very busy year for the team, so we thank you for your understanding.”

Demonschool is now aiming for a release in the first quarter of 2025.

Our Ed tried out the demo for Demonschool earlier this year and described it as a mix of Persona and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

“It’s playful, fun, nostalgic and scary all at the same time and I can’t wait for the full release,” he wrote in his June Demonschool Wishlisted feature.
