To be clear, the new Honda Hornet no longer has the four-cylinder engine that made its predecessor so successful in the late 1990s: in its place we find a spirited 755 cc liquid-cooled inline twin, with a double balance shaft to dampen vibrations and a 270° crankshaft (a solution that allows more thrust at low and medium revs). The maximum power we recorded in fifth gear was 88.3 hp at the wheel at 9,600 rpm (in sixth gear the power is 83.9 at 8,600 rpm). Three preset engine maps (Standard, Sport, Rain) with specific intervention levels for power delivery, engine braking, traction control and anti-wheelie and one that can be customized by the driver (user). The SC-1R silencer by SC Project is an accessory included in the “official” Honda catalogue: it has a titanium sleeve, a carbon end cap and costs 890 euros.

The frame has a diamond structure made of steel, the Showa SFF-BP fork (non-adjustable) has separate functions between the stems for hydraulics and suspension, while the “Mono” is only adjustable in spring preload. The braking system is completely Nissin with radial calipers, 296 mm brake discs at the front and 240 mm brake discs at the rear.

The dark windshield of “our” CB750 Hornet is an accessory in the Honda catalog: it can be found under the “design” section but actually has only an aesthetic function. It costs 127 euros. The 5-inch color TFT screen is customizable and can be displayed in 4 different layouts. It is possible to connect it to the smartphone with the appropriate app and offers the “plus” of voice control. The handlebar controls are well done. Thanks to the different color choices, the many buttons on the left block are easy to use. The joystick allows you to access the dashboard menus and manage all the electronic parameters. In general, the finishes are “real” Honda: attention to detail, quality plastics and paintwork and no cables lying around. There is a small space under the passenger seat: in addition to the on-board tools, it can also store documents.
