Mafia: The Old Country – Everything we know about the new game so far
Mafia: The Old Country is a huge comeback for the series from Hangar 13, nearly eight years after the release of Mafia 3 in October 2016. As you might have guessed from the title of the upcoming game, we’re heading back to the literal old home of the Italian Mafia – or more specifically, Sicily – for a brand new story.
Information is still being released on Mafia: The Old Country, but after Hangar 13’s big reveal of the new game at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024, there’s still a lot for us to reveal, so we’ve compiled all the details in one handy guide for you. From Mafia: The Old Country’s release window to the trailer and the latest news surrounding the title, here’s all the information we know for sure about one of the most exciting new games of 2025.
Speculation about the release date of Mafia: The Old Country
Currently, the release date for Mafia: The Old Country is scheduled for sometime next year. 2025.
We didn’t see this in the game’s reveal trailer, but it was thanks to a tweet from publisher 2K following the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation, where the year-long release window was revealed alongside other games from 2K like Civilization 7 and Borderlands 4. We’ll keep you updated once a firm date is announced, but at least we can rest easy knowing it’s definitely coming out soon.
Mafia: The Old Country platforms
Mafia: The Old Country is specifically aimed at the current generation of hardware, but you might have already guessed that given how polished and impressive the theatrical reveal trailer was. As such, you can expect The Old Country to launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms when it hits.

Just above you can watch the full trailer for Mafia: The Old Country, which premiered at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. The trailer gives us a glimpse of the kind of environments we’ll be exploring in the new game, specifically 20th century Sicily and the town of San Celeste, which, in case you didn’t already know, means we’re returning to the same locations that first appeared in Mafia 2.
Following the trailer’s airing, Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes appeared in a special message and revealed that The Old Country will “go back to the roots of what fans love about the Mafia series.” Baynes also hinted that The Old Country will have a more linear story compared to previous games like Mafia 3’s open world.
You can interpret that however you want, but to us at least, it sounds like Mafia: The Old Country is consciously avoiding the series’ past mistakes, moving away from the open-world formula and focusing on a more focused experience. It’s fair to say that Mafia 3’s open world wasn’t well received by everyone, so this could be great news depending on how you look at it.
Mafia: The Old Country Prize
Since the final release of Mafia: The Old Country next year is still a long way off, we cannot currently give a retail price for the new game.
However, publisher 2K isn’t afraid to price its new titles higher – it was the first publisher to charge $70/£70 for a current-gen game at the start of this console cycle – so it’s very likely that Mafia: The Old Country will retail for $70/£70.
