AtriCure Announces Major Expansion of Mason Headquarters and Job Creation

Medical device maker AtriCure announced Thursday that it will use tax incentives to nearly double the size of its Mason headquarters and hire hundreds of new employees.

The multi-year plan will strengthen the company’s research, development and manufacturing capabilities. AtriCure plans to expand its current campus in Mason with up to 120,000 square feet of new laboratory, R&D, office and modern manufacturing space.

According to its annual report, AtriCure currently has more than 16,000 square meters of office, warehouse and manufacturing space in Mason. The company employs 1,200 people worldwide, including 470 in Mason.

According to the Ohio Department of Development, AtriCure will receive an estimated $13.3 million in tax credits over 12 years. The state says the deal will create 400 new jobs and increase payroll by nearly $55 million, on top of the $58 million already in place.

“We are very excited to continue our expansion in Mason, Ohio,” AtriCure CEO Michael Carrel said in a statement. “This project highlights our continued growth as we fulfill our commitment to reach more patients and strengthens our connection to the community.”

AtriCure moved to Mason in 2015 and this is the fourth expansion of its local presence.

Local authorities welcomed the expansion.

“The city has worked hard to secure this critical investment,” Mayor Diana Nelson said in a statement. “As an anchor in Mason’s I-71 Innovation Corridor, AtriCure paves the way for scientific growth and advancement that benefits the city, the region and the entire state.”
