Hillsborough Police officers have arrested a Riverview man who allegedly admitted to shooting twice at a car, injuring a 16-year-old girl, during a driving aggression incident.

Rasool Abdul Hakeem, 37, was arrested late Tuesday and charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder with great bodily injury and shooting at or into a vehicle.

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 4200 block of South Falkenburg Road around 5 p.m. Officers said two groups traveling north in separate vehicles got into an argument and one of the drivers, who they later identified as Hakeem, fired shots at the other vehicle.

The 16-year-old rider who was shot was taken to Tampa General Hospital to be treated for injuries that police said were not life-threatening. The sheriff’s office has not released the girl’s name.

“There is simply no excuse for endangering a life because of a disagreement with another driver,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the release. “There is absolutely no reason for an innocent 16-year-old to be in the hospital for an incident of road rage.”

According to records, Hakeem was being held without bail at Orient Road Jail on Wednesday.
