Shocking! Doctors remove brain tumor via eye socket – Find out all about this unique procedure – Life News

For the first time, a team of doctors in Hyderabad removed a complex brain tumor without any incisions or skull bone removal. Doctors at AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad reportedly developed a new neurosurgical technique, the ‘Endoscopic Lateral Transorbital Approach’, to remove the tumor from a 54-year-old patient.

During the procedure, doctors use a neuroendoscope to drill a small path around the eye to remove the brain tumor.

The patient reportedly suffered from right-sided blurred vision and headaches. Initially, she was misdiagnosed with viral encephalitis. Upon further investigation, she was diagnosed with sphenoid-orbital-cavernous meningioma (SOM), a benign tumor located where the sphenoid bone, orbit, and cavernous sinus meet.

According to senior neurosurgeon Dr. Abhirama Chandra Gabbita, this technique allowed the tumor to be removed without leaving any visible scars on the patient’s face or skull.

“The endoscopic approach allows us to access the tumor through a small incision. Since the brain is neither directly touched nor compressed during the procedure, there is no physical impact on the brain. This results in less trauma to the surrounding tissue and a faster healing process,” said Dr. Subodh Raju, director of neurosurgery, in a statement.

According to reports, the patient was fully recovered just two days after the procedure and was discharged without any visible scars.
