People are reacting to a giant spiral that was just deployed in Washington, DC

Commuters at Union Station in Washington, DC were greeted this morning with a 20-foot inflatable intrauterine device (IUD).

The oversized inflatable contraceptive device was introduced by Americans for Contraception to encourage the Senate to pass the Right to Contraception Act in today’s vote.

The Right to Contraception Act would protect the federal right of all Americans to access contraception when they want it, whether in the form of pills, patches, implants, condoms, IUDs, or medical procedures such as vasectomies. Since the fall of Roe v. Wade In 2022, some conservatives have proposed measures that could restrict access to medications such as hormonal contraceptives. This includes convicted former President Donald Trump, who said he was “looking into” restrictions on birth control and ominously promised to unveil an “interesting” plan on the issue “very soon.”

Some people may even find it romantic:

If you think about it, it is actually a symbol of freedom:

In case you didn’t know, getting an IUD inserted can be excruciatingly painful and most doctors won’t prescribe any painkillers or anaesthetics to their patients other than, say, two paracetamol, so this tweet made me laugh and cry at the same time.

Of course, some conservatives are angry about the big spiral, but in reality the consequences of their actions are now taking their toll in the form of a 20-foot-tall inflatable figure. I think they’re getting off lightly.
