Who keeps golf score records? And how good are they?

Do you keep your own golf score and does it change depending on how well or poorly you play?

The National Golf Foundation has some insights into these issues.

According to the NGF, 77 percent of golfers regularly keep track of their scores. Men achieve an average score of 97 and women 99.

Now do the math: Half of those surveyed admit that they take certain liberties with the strict rules of golf, such as mulligans, gimmee putts, an extra ball from the first tee or not enforcing out-of-bounds.

The NGF also reported that since the United States Golf Association and Royal and Ancient introduced the World Handicap System in 2020, the number of people in the United States who have a handicap has increased by 23 percent to approximately 3.2 million.
