The following was submitted by Kim McGowen, annual giving chair for the Stanly Health Foundation, host of “Dancing With the Stars” in Stanly County.

The highly anticipated 12th annual Dancing with the Stars benefitting Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center will feature dynamic couple Susan Glenn Dennis and Dr. Jarrod Dennis. Their participation promises to bring grace and enthusiasm to the dance floor while supporting an important cause.
Susan Glenn Dennis is originally from Durham and has a rich educational and social background.
Susan holds a master’s degree in business administration and marketing from East Carolina University and spent many years as a high school teacher in Durham Public Schools before becoming a mother and preschool teacher.
Outside of her professional life, Susan volunteers for Meals-on-Wheels, is an avid cook, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Susan is married to Dr. Jarrod Dennis, Superintendent of Stanly County Schools, and is excited to participate in this event and help raise funds for the Butterfly House.
Dr. Jarrod Dennis is a proud Stanly County native. He grew up in the Oakboro community and attended West Stanly High School.
His career in education began as a teacher at Forest Hills High School. After serving in Iraq, Dennis returned to the education field and moved into school administration.
His roles have included assistant principal at Northern High School in Durham, principal at Orange Charter School (now Eno River Academy), and principal at Person High School. He joined Person County Schools as assistant principal in 2015 and was named assistant principal in 2017.
Dennis has been Superintendent of Stanly County Schools since 2020.
In addition to his professional successes, Dennis is a devoted family man and has three children – Amelia, Ava and Lucas – with his wife of 15 years, Susan.
The event, themed “Magic of Motown,” will take place on September 7 at 7 p.m. at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. Eleven talented dance teams will delight the audience. It’s an opportunity to celebrate community spirit and support a great cause.
Tickets are on sale now and all proceeds will benefit Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, which provides critical services to children and families in need.
