Buffalo locals team up for documentary to tell the story of Bill’s Mafia

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — When it comes to being a Buffalo Bills fan, no one knows the passion and pain of cheering on our hometown team better than Bills fans themselves.

Now a major feature-length documentary film entitled Just one more before I die is in the works and will tell the story of the Bills Mafia through the eyes of some of the team’s most devoted fans.

Just one more before I die is a title that strikes a chord with a championship-hungry fan base, and the film was created by award-winning filmmakers, diehard Bills fans, and Buffalo natives Addison Henderson and Kevin Polowy.

Buffalo-based award-winning filmmakers Kevin Polowy and Addison Henderson are directing and producing a documentary about Bill’s Mafia titled Just one more before I dieThe feature-length documentary tells the definitive story of Bills fans from the perspective of their most devoted members.

“I think ultimately we want to tell the definitive story of Bill’s Mafia,” Polowy said.

“You spend so much of your lifeblood watching the Bills and supporting the team, and you just hope and pray and wish that we get to the Super Bowl and win it,” Addison said.

The dream of winning it all persists every season, and Just One Before I Die documents the highs and lows of being a Bills fan while shedding light on what the directors believe is one of the most unique fan bases in the world.

“I believe we are the most passionate, I believe we are the most tortured considering the suffering we have been through, I believe we are the wildest as evidenced by the jumping around on the tables, and we are the most charitable considering the countless acts we have seen in Bill’s Mafia’s charitable efforts,” Polowy said.

Production on the documentary will begin this fall, and the filmmakers will follow real-life Bills fans like Pinto Ron, Del Reid and The Chefs while telling touching stories from Bills fans across the country.

Kevin Polowy and Addison Henderson are Buffalo natives and diehard Buffalo Bills fans who now live in Los Angeles. The two have been good friends for years.

“We follow our characters and they lead us to the game,” Addison said. “We have certain characters that we’re going to touch on that week and follow them as they start their lives and do some really cool things. And, you know, for us, it’s about being innovative in the documentary space.”

Filming of Just one more before I die takes place in Buffalo, Los Angeles and New York City.

A release date for the film has not yet been set, but both directors know how they would like it to end.

“We would like to win the Super Bowl at the end, but of course that is anything but guaranteed,” Polowy said.

“If the Bills win the Super Bowl, I think our movie is done. I think we’ll shoot it, we’ll make it, and it’ll premiere at Cannes and win everything,” Henderson said.

Just One Before I Die was conceived by Buffalo native Clayton Polowy, who will also executive produce the film. Renowned Irish cinematographer Stephen Gerard Kelly will handle the camera. The film is also being produced by Mac Cappuccino; co-producers are Trent Boling and Leah Cohen-Mays.
