Diddy criticizes Lil Rod’s lawsuit as “countless lies” and asks the judge to dismiss the case

Sean “Diddy” Combs has criticized producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones’ lawsuit as “countless lies” after his lawyers asked a judge to dismiss the case.

Attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the $30 million lawsuit on Monday, saying the suit was “obscene” and did not contain “a single valid claim.”

Jones, who worked for the rapper between September 2022 and November 2023, claims Combs sexually harassed, drugged and threatened him for over a year.

The lawsuit also alleges that Combs – formerly known as Puff Daddy and P. Diddy – regularly hosted “sex trafficking parties” involving underage women and illegal drugs, and suggests that record label executives who looked the other way benefited financially from access to celebrities and dignitaries.

Combs’ lawyers are fighting the allegations, arguing that Jones’ “true intention was to create a media frenzy and exploit it to obtain a settlement.”

“Jones’ second amended complaint is his third attempt to frame an ordinary commercial dispute as an obscene RICO conspiracy,” the motion states. “It runs to nearly 100 pages and contains countless tall tales, shameless celebrity mentions, and irrelevant images.”

The motion was filed by Manhattan-based law firm Sher Tremonte in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Combs’ attorney Erica Wolff said in a statement: “Mr. Jones’ lawsuit is pure fiction – a shameless attempt to create a media hype and reach a quick settlement. There was no RICO conspiracy and Mr. Jones was not threatened, manipulated, attacked or trafficked. We look forward to proving in court that all of Mr. Jones’ allegations are fabricated and must be dismissed.”

The motion also states that Jones’ attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, was referred to the court’s appeals committee for repeatedly “wrongfully filing cases in federal court to attract media attention, embarrass defendants with offensive allegations, and pressure them into a quick settlement.”

Blackburn replied: “If your client is not being offensive, I have nothing offensive to say. I choose my clients, not their facts.”

He told Deadline in a statement: “This is nothing more than a score-scoring exercise by Sean Combs’ latest group of lawyers. It’s a feeble attempt to line their pockets before he is indicted and they decide to run away, just like his five previous lawyers.”

Jones has until September 9 to respond to the motion to dismiss.

Combs, a music mogul who has helped launch the careers of some of the world’s biggest stars in recent years, faces multiple civil lawsuits accusing him of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, sexual abuse and rape.

Federal agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security searched two of the rapper’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami on March 25 of this year as he faces a number of different charges.

Combs, 54, has vehemently denied all allegations against him. His lawyers have described the lawsuits and the allegations contained therein as a money-making scheme, “baseless” or “sickening.”

The entertainer has neither been officially charged nor accused of a crime by the federal prosecutor’s office.

On May 17, surveillance footage taken at a Los Angeles hotel in March 2016 showed Diddy chasing his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura down the hallway before attacking her near the elevators and then attempting to drag her into his hotel room.

The following day, he posted an apology video on Instagram, saying his behavior was “inexcusable” and that he took “full responsibility for his actions in the video.”

The numerous allegations in the lawsuits against Combs date back to the 1990s, when he founded his own record label, Bad Boy Records.
