EAA adds QR codes to aircraft exhibitions for self-guided, detailed information

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WSAW) – The EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh now offers more detailed information about the museum exhibits by adding self-explanatory QR codes to select aircraft exhibits.

The Inside the Hangar tours allow visitors to scan a QR code with their smart device to gain additional background information about the exhibit without downloading a special app. This allows visitors to see additional information such as the background of the exhibit, non-exhibited archival photos, and other information not found on museum signs.

“Museum visitors across the country today want more interaction with the exhibits and displays they see, and the Synthesia software allows EAA to add far more depth to an exhibit than we could put on a sign,” said Amelia Anderson, curator of collections at the EAA Aviation Museum. “If this proves to be increasingly popular, we will incorporate it into more exhibits in the coming year.”

Already at the museum entrance, EAA museum visitors will find a first QR code that explains the possibility of a self-guided tour and its advantages.

Current QR codes are available on some of the EAA’s “base aircraft”, such as the Mechanix illustrated Baby Ace, Little Audrey and Little Bonzo. It is also available in the Huey helicopter exhibit in the Eagle Hangar.
