On Monday, a post by conservative columnist Dustin Grage went viral on X in which he juxtaposed two pictures of Walz playing with two different dogs.

“This is Tim Walz tweeting about his dog Scout,” Grage wrote in the post. “The only problem is that they are two completely different dogs.”

The post quickly went viral and sparked a heated debate, with some users claiming Walz lied about owning the black Labrador mix, who became Minnesota’s “First Dog” in 2019.

A community note was eventually attached to the post, clarifying that the image on the right was a screenshot from a video Walz shared of himself visiting a dog park in 2022.

The dog in the picture was another puppy he and Scout had met that day.

Tim Walz conspiracy theory spreads like wildfire

The bizarre conspiracy theory comes at a time when Walz, who recently became Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ running mate, is facing intense criticism and attacks from Republicans, including criticism of his military service and the progressive policies he implemented as governor.

Although the dog theory was easily disproven, some MAGA Republicans stuck to their theory, including Donald Trump Jr.’s wife Kimberly Guilfoyle, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, and Missouri Senator Eric Schmidt.

MSNBC host and former White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki recently called the theory another “desperate” attempt to catch Walz, adding, “Better luck next time, guys.”
