The new commercial units are located on the fourth floor, in the international arrivals area on the third floor and in the “Tasty Street” food court on the second floor.

Kansai Airports has announced details of 13 retail and restaurant units to be opened as part of the ongoing renovation of Terminal 1 at Kansai International Airport (KIX).

The new offering is housed in the new commercial area corresponding to phase three of KIX’s T1 redevelopment, and includes KIX Duty Free Arrival Shops (2), KIX Currency Exchange, Nihombashi Tendon Kaneko Hannosuke, Gacha Matsuri, Gowell Select, Lawson, One Village One Product Market, Global WiFi (2), Telecom Square and Imoto no WiFi.

The grand opening of the renovated T1 is planned for spring 2025, ahead of Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai.

KIX will play a central role as the gateway to Kansai, serving visitors from all over the world.

As reported Last month, KIX enjoyed better-than-expected passenger spending since the inauguration of the newly renovated international departures area after security checks in Terminal 1 in December. This area features 27 retail, dining, luxury boutique and service units, including KIX Duty Free’s first walk-in duty-free shop covering 2,500 square metres.

In a statement, it said: “Kansai Airports Group will continue to work with our partners on the renovation to enhance KIX’s airport functions as a gateway to Kansai, with safety and security as the top priority.”

Once the renovation work in the departure and arrival areas is completed, passenger capacity is expected to increase from 23 to 40 million passengers per year.

Kansai Airports, formed by a consortium whose core members are Vinci Airports and Orix Corporation, has taken over the operations of Kansai International Airport and Osaka International Airport from New Kansai International Airport Company and has operated both since April 1, 2016.
