Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars release retro duet “Die with a Smile”
It has been almost three months since Lady Gaga released her seventh studio album in her Chromatica Ball concert film, but it looks like her little monsters will have to wait a little longer. “WHILE YOU WAIT FOR LG7… ‘DIE WITH A SMILE,'” the singer posted on her social media accounts on Thursday.
“Die with a Smile,” a duet with Bruno Mars, is Gaga’s first new music since 2022’s “Hold My Hand,” which was featured in the blockbuster film Top Shooter: Maverick but it failed to take off. For her last successful single, 2020’s “Rain on Me,” the pop star teamed up with hitmaker Ariana Grande, while Bruno continues his own successful streak of collaborations, releasing tracks with Anderson .Paak and Cardi B, among others.
Co-produced by D’Mile and Andrew Watt, who previously worked with Gaga on the Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” “Die with a Smile” is a throwback to love songs from the last century. “When the party was over and our time on earth was up, I’d just wanna hold you for a while, and die with a smile,” sing Gaga and Mars in this catchy, if bleak, power ballad.
The music video, directed by Daniel Ramos and Mars, sees the duo – dressed in matching western attire – performing the song in front of an audience of mannequins on a vintage-themed television show.
