Mariah Carey’s mother and sister die on the same day
MariahCarey announced in a statement on Monday that her mother and sister died on the same day over the weekend.
Carey’s sister Alison died shortly after midnight on Saturday from liver complications Cancer in her house in the north of the state new YorkHer mother Patricia died hours later.
“I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away,” Carey said in the statement.
Patricia, a successful opera singer, reportedly lived in Florida.
In 2010, she sang with Carey on an ABC Christmas special and received a standing ovation.
Carey wrote about her mother in her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”
“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, management and disappointment,” the book says. “A complicated love binds my heart to my mother’s.”
Carey also had a problematic relationship with her sister.
Alison’s boyfriend, David Baker, tells Inside Edition that at the time of her death, she had been battling organ failure in a hospice for three weeks.
“She indicated she would like to speak to (Mariah). She also indicated she would like to speak to her mother, but we were unable to arrange either,” Baker said.
Alison, 63, told Inside Edition in a 1995 interview that she wanted to pursue a singing career.
“I love my sister. Mariah had her eye on the goal, music was everything,” Alison said.
