Loan Watch | Hunter Sulte and Indy Eleven play in the semifinals of the US Open Cup

Portland Timbers goalkeeper Hunter Sulte has spent the 2024 season on loan to Indy Eleven, and on Tuesday the USL Championship team will look to secure a place in Lamar Hunt US Open Cup history.

Sulte and Indy Eleven will face Sporting Kansas City in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals at Children’s Mercy Park, kicking off at 5 p.m. PT. Live coverage is available via the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Sulte, a product of the Timbers Academy and Homegrown Player, has appeared in three of Indy Eleven’s four games in the 2024 U.S. Open Cup, compiling a record of 3-0-0 and two shutouts.

A brief overview of Sulte’s performance in the Open Cup:

Reaching the semifinals of the US Open Cup is the furthest Indy Elven have reached in the tournament, and Sulte has been instrumental in their Cup victory under head coach Sean McAuley – a former Timbers player (2002) and assistant coach (2012-18).

In the league this season, Sulte has played in 16 games for Indy Elven, contributing to a club record of 10-9-5 (35 points). He has recorded 47 saves, a 70% save percentage and five shutouts. Two of his five shutouts have come in his last four league games.

Earlier this month, Sulte won the USL Championship Save of the Week for Week 23. He made an incredible save – part of a four-save performance – against Rhode Island FC on August 7.
