Stuttgart confidently advances to the second round of the DFB Cup with a 5-0 win in Münster

MÜNSTER, Germany (AP) — Bundesliga runner-up Stuttgart easily advanced to the second round of the DFB Cup with a 5-0 win over second division side Preußen Münster on Tuesday.

Goals from Angelo Stiller, Ermedin Demirović and Pascal Stenzel in the first half, followed by Nick Woltemade’s first goal for the club and a penalty from Atakan Karazor in the second half gave Stuttgart their first win of the season after starting the Bundesliga with a 3-1 defeat at Freiburg.

The game at the Preußenstadion was delayed by a few minutes due to a large pyrotechnic show by the traveling fans.

The two teams’ match was postponed from the weekend of their other first-round matches because Stuttgart is participating in the German Supercup. The match was boycotted by both Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen ultras because it would impact their teams’ DFB Cup matches. Leverkusen will play its postponed first-round match on Wednesday against fourth-division side Carl Zeiss Jena.

With a large banner reading “Rest in peace, master coach Daum,” the Münster fans paid tribute to national coach Christoph Daum, who died on Saturday.

Münster was promoted from the third division to the second division last season, after having achieved promotion from the fourth division the season before.
