NASCAR Cup Series coming to Mexico City in 2025 – SportsTravel

The NASCAR Cup Series will hold its first points race in Mexico on June 15, 2025 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City.

The historic road course is 2.674 miles long, includes 17 turns and sits at an elevation of 7,342 feet. Built in 1959, the track was named in honor of the racing brothers Ricardo Rodriguez And Peter RodriguezThe circuit was redesigned in 2015 and has since hosted eight Formula 1 Grand Prix events.

Although the race will be a first in the Cup Series, NASCAR and Mexico have a long-standing relationship. Between 2005 and 2008, the Xfinity Series competed at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, featuring current Cup Series stars Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin And Martin Truex, Jr. all have won there during the four-year series. In addition, the NASCAR Mexico Series has competed under the NASCAR name for 17 seasons. The series was in the United States earlier this year when it joined the Cup Series for the Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum event weekend in February.

The new event was announced at a press conference at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. “This is a historic moment for our sport and especially for the NASCAR Cup Series as we expand our presence to Mexico,” said Kennedy. “We have been bold in our intention to grow on a global scale and there is no better place to take the next step on that journey than the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City.”

The race weekend begins with the Mexico Series and the Xfinity Series as part of the event on June 14-15.

The only two Cup races that previously offered international points were held in Canada. The first was held in 1952 at Stamford Park in Ontario, Canada, and the second in 1958 at the Canadian Exposition Center in Toronto. NASCAR also held three exhibition races at the Suzuka Circuitland in Suzuka City, Japan, from 1996 to 1998.
