Aug. 27 (UPI) – NASCAR will host a Cup Series race in Mexico for the first time in 2025, the auto racing company announced Tuesday.

The event will take place on June 15 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. NASCAR will hold Xfinity Series and Mexico Series events at the track the same weekend.

The Cup Series race will air on Prime Video. The other two events will air on The CW.

“This is a historic moment for our sport and especially for the NASCAR Cup Series as we expand our reach into Mexico,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR executive vice president, in a press release.

“We have boldly pursued our intentions to grow on a global level and there is no better place to take the next step on that journey than the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City.”

The 2.7-mile road course includes 17 turns and was built in 1959 at an elevation of 7,342 feet. The track has hosted eight Formula One Grand Prix races. The Xfinity Series held races at the track from 2005 to 2008.

NASCAR held its first international Cup Series race in Toronto in 1952. The company also held exhibition races in Suzuka City, Japan.

The final regular season race of the 2024 Cup Series will take place Sunday at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, SC. The Cook Out Southern 500 will air on the USA Network at 6 p.m. EDT.

The Cup Series playoffs begin September 8 with the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia.

NASCAR’s preseason duel takes place on February 2 at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The 2025 Daytona 500 opens the season on February 16 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
