“The Last King of Scotland” director Kevin MacDonald signs with Cinetic

Cinetic Media has hired Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin MacDonald as manager.

Macdonald won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for “A Day in September,” a look at the murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. MacDonald’s feature “The Last King of Scotland” earned Forest Whitaker the Academy Award for Best Actor for his chilling portrayal of Idi Amin.

MacDonald will attend the Venice Film Festival, where he will present “One to One: John & Yoko,” a documentary about the relationship between the two music legends. from Mercury Studios. His recent documentary, “Klitschko: More Than a Fight,” a look at Vitali Klitschko, a boxing champion turned mayor of Kyiv, opened Sheffield DocFest 2024. His previous non-fiction work includes “Marley,” a portrait of reggae star Bob Marley; “Whitney,” an examination of pop sensation Whitney Houston; and “High & Low – John Galliano,” which traces the fall of the controversial fashion designer.

His most recent feature film was The Mauritanian, a political thriller starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jodie Foster and Tahar Rahim. His producing credits include Asif Kapadia’s Senna, Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi’s The Rescue and Ben Nicholas and David Tryhorn’s Pele. MacDonald has a joint venture with Plan B to develop and produce documentaries and series.
