ALLENPORT, Pa. (KDKA) – A missing 2-year-old girl was found after an hours-long search overnight in Washington County, first responders said.

The Stockdale Fire Department said it was one of several emergency responders called just before 1 a.m. Tuesday to help search for the girl who disappeared from her Allenport home.

Rescuers were called in with the help of sniffer dogs, all-terrain vehicles, thermal imaging drones and cameras. The fire department said the sniffer dog team picked up a trail and followed it toward the river, prompting water rescue units and a helicopter to be called.

After an extensive search on the ground, the girl was found. She was taken to hospital as a precaution, the fire department said.

“The search lasted about 3.5 hours and had a happy ending. Great job by Stockdale firefighter Brad Martin as he was the one who found the child,” the department wrote on Facebook.

“Thank you to all of our mutual aid departments as this was a true testament to why we train and procure specialist equipment to help our communities.”
