The Walking Dead lasted more than a few seasons too long. After over a decade of zombies and post-apocalyptic heroism, the AMC series was canceled in 2022. The franchise immediately shifted its focus to a variety of spin-offs centering on some of the original series’ most interesting characters. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon focuses on the titular Daryl and his journey through France, and will return for a second season on September 29, 2024.

After Daryl’s adventures in Europe, fans can quench their thirst for more Walking dead with The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2. This spinoff was the first to be released after the original series and follows the unlikely pair Negan and Maggie as they try to find Maggie’s kidnapped son in the remains of New York City. The change of location gives the story a different feel, and iconic locations like Madison Square Garden find their way onto the screen. Dead City. What is The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 about?

The core of the show is the absolute hatred between Negan and Maggie, which arose when Negan murdered Maggie’s husband Glenn while The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere. Maggie knows how valuable Negan can be as a leader, especially since he has become one of the best antiheroes in television history thanks to Morgan’s outstanding work. In the first season, they teamed up to save Maggie’s son, as Negan felt he owed Maggie something, not only for Glenn’s death, but also because Maggie helped him by sheltering his wife. They will continue their mission while battling the evil factions of New York City, first developed in the first season.

Who stars in season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City?

Lauren Cohen and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will return as Maggie and Negan. The rest of the cast consists of survivors in New York City who serve as antagonists to both Negan and Maggie. Željko Ivanek will return as Croat, the leader of the terrorist group Burazi that kidnapped Maggie’s son. His portrayal of the villain was stellar in Season 1 and should continue to gain momentum in Season 2.

Several other new characters are introduced this season:

  • Keir Gilchrist as Benjamin Pierce – Benjamin is a new member of the Burazi who will appear alongside Croat. There is not much information about him beyond that. Gilchrist previously starred in the Netflix series Atypical from 2017 to 2021. This show portrayed life and the complications of living with autism in modern America.
  • Dascha Polanco as Lucia Narvaez – A Latina survivor who will bring more female energy to the cast. Nothing further is known about her character. Polanco previously starred in Orange is the new black. This was one of the first original series to hit Netflix.
  • Jake Weary as Christos – Like Lucia, Christos is yet to be revealed. He will be another survivor fighting his way through the weary world of the apocalypse. Weary himself starred in TNT’s Animal Kingdom, one of the underrated crime series of the 2010s.
  • Pooya Mohseni as Roksana – Another new survivor who has not yet been given any information to the press. The character’s Arab background is crucial to the representation of Arab actors in Hollywood. Mohseni previously appeared in Law and Order: SVU. Mohensi is transgender, which makes her a real barrier in terms of both her race and gender identity.
  • Kim Coates as Bruegel – This character has been touted as one of the new antagonists of the second season. Watch for Bruegel and how he opposes and complicates Negan and Maggie’s goals this season. Coates has a lot of experience playing villains, having previously played a criminal biker in Sons of Anarchy.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will be released in 2025. No release date has been announced beyond this rough estimate. Season 2 will have two more episodes, which Dead City Season 2 has eight episodes instead of six. This is a great sign for people who want more episodes per season as the television industry moves to smaller episodic series.
