A mother from Buckinghamshire told how frightened she was when she saw a 20cm dragonfly buzzing around her living room – like a “mini helicopter”.

Rowena Wilkinson, 53, found the dragonfly after hearing her 24-year-old daughter’s terrified screams from the living room.

Accordingly ITV Newsshe said: “It sounded like a mini helicopter – it was that loud.

“It was like a Jurassic monster. I didn’t know whether to take a photo or run away, but I managed to get close enough to take a few pictures.

“We waited a moment until it stopped and then I had to put my arm through the blinds to open the window so it could fly out.”

Dragonflies have been on Earth for 325 million years. The longest dragonfly in Britain is the female golden-ringed dragonfly.

According to the Daily Mail, Dragonflies are threatened by the widespread use of insecticides, but are enjoying a revival thanks to conservation efforts and warmer weather.
