Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars die together with a smile

Fresh from her performance at the Olympic Games opening ceremony and with a busy few months ahead of her, Lady Gaga whets fans’ appetite for her next album with “Die With a Smile,” a new collaboration with fellow Grammy winner Bruno Mars.

“Die With a Smile” comes as Mars wraps up the final weeks of his long-running Las Vegas residency and Gaga continues to tease her upcoming seventh studio album. “If the world was ending / I’d wanna be next to you / If the party was over / And our time on earth was up / I’d wanna hold you just for a while / And die with a smile,” the two sing in the song.

Given their great voices and countless accolades, some may be surprised that it took so long for Gaga and Mars to collaborate. In a statement about the song, Gaga herself described how it all came together.

“Bruno and I have a lot of mutual respect and have talked about collaborating,” she said in a statement. “I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to listen to something he was working on. It was about midnight when I got there and I was blown away when I heard what he had started doing. We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song.”

“Bruno’s talent is indescribable,” she added. “His musicality and vision are on a whole new level. There is no one like him.”

Mars expressed similar sentiments. “It was an honor to work with Gaga,” he said. “She is an icon and makes this song magical.”

While fans wait for the release of Gaga’s next album, they can prepare to see her on the big screen alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Foil for Two, in cinemas on October 4th.
