The heroic dance teacher who risked her own life to protect children during the Southport knife attack has been discharged from hospital after being readmitted.

Leanne Lucas, 35, was critically injured when she jumped into the building to protect innocent children on July 29 when a knifeman went on a rampage and killed three schoolgirls.

The tragic victims of the frenzied attack the following day were named as six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.

Leanne, one of the organizers of the Taylor Swift-themed summer course, underwent life-saving surgery in the hours following the shooting.

The 35-year-old was quickly hailed as a hero after reports emerged that she had used her body as a shield to protect numerous children.

Trisha and Esther, who are running a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Leanne’s family, said she was released from the hospital on August 6.

But just ten days later, it was reported that the teacher had been admitted again because she was having breathing difficulties.

Esther took to social media this week to announce that Leanne was back home and surrounded by loved ones as she continues her road to recovery.

She said her boyfriend had undergone surgery and everyone had been overwhelmed by the kindness she had received.

Esther wrote on a Southport community Facebook page: “Leanne has been discharged following further surgery and is now recovering surrounded by family and friends.”

“Please continue to support Leanne by sharing her GoFundMe page widely and donating where possible.”

“We received so many lovely messages of congratulations, so many gifts and handmade crafts for her.”

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their kindness during this incredibly difficult time.”

It is understood Leeane has been readmitted to undergo further surgery to drain her lung.

Trisha and Esther wrote on the fundraising page on August 15: “Unfortunately, Leanne was readmitted to hospital this week with breathing difficulties.”

“She is awaiting surgery for further drainage of her lung due to an infection.”

“Leanne had only just begun her road to recovery.

“Please think of them and continue to support them as you have done so far by sharing the page and donating what you can.

“Thank you to everyone from the Lucas family.”

The teacher is said to have planned the two-hour dance and yoga class to coincide with the school holidays and to have held the class together with Heidi Barlow.

Heidi was reportedly also injured in the attack, but not as seriously as Leanne.

One of Leanne’s relatives said she was stabbed in the back, arms and neck while trying to save the children attending her class.

All three young girls who tragically died in the shooting were now bid farewell in a heartfelt memorial service.

Just a few days ago, the funeral of seven-year-old Elsie took place – her parents followed her tiny coffin in a horse-drawn carriage while hundreds of sobbing mourners gathered to say a final farewell to her.

Grieving residents, emergency workers and members of the youth cheerleading squad lined the roadsides Friday as their carriage was pulled by horses decorated with rainbows.

Behind the procession marched lines of heartbroken friends wearing bright colours that matched the pink ribbons tied to lamp posts along the route. Elsie’s family had asked participants not to wear black.

The tiny coffin, wrapped in a bright, colourful shroud, was carried on the shoulders of four men into St John’s Church in Birkdale, near Southport – the church where she was baptised.

On Sunday, August 11, hundreds lined the streets of Southport to remember nine-year-old Alice, who was also killed in the shooting.

Devastated mourners gathered at St Patrick’s Church for the funeral of Alice – who was described as a “princess” by her heartbroken family.

The little girl’s parents, Sergio and Alexandra, were joined by friends and relatives, as well as Serena Kennedy, Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, and uniformed officers from the police, ambulance and fire services.

The mourning crowd was seen carrying flowers and pink balloons and dressed in bright colors.

For the funeral, a white coffin decorated with pink roses was carried into the church. Pink ribbons and balloons were attached to lamp posts and garden walls.

The third victim, Bebe, was farewelled on August 17. Her relatives came together to celebrate their daughter’s life.

The funeral service for the six-year-old took place in a private setting.

18-year-old Axel Rudakubana was brought to trial on triple murder and ten counts of attempted murder.
