Puma Fast RB Nitro Elite: The most illegal running shoe?

Puma Fast RB Nitro Elite: The most illegal running shoe?

What happens when you ignore all the rules and create the most radical, performance-enhancing super shoe ever? Enter the Puma Fast RB (‘rule-breaking’) Nitro Elite.

Designed specifically for the needs of high-speed runners, the shoe makes the Adidas Pro Evo 1 look almost like child’s play. The difference, however, is that this speedster is not race-legal. In fact, the 58mm (!) thick midsole is a whopping 18mm over World Athletics regulations. And with no less than three carbon plates, it’s built for boldness and unabashed speed.

“It is often assumed that our running shoes for elite competitions comply with the rules,” says Romain Girard, Head of Innovation Design at Puma. “But with Fast RB Nitro Elite we asked ourselves the following question: Bwhat if we pushed running technology to the limits?

“This is not just a running shoe. This is a statement. Proof of our intention to be not only the fastest brand in the world, but also the most innovative.”

The multi-layered midsole (with a stack height of 58mm in the heel and 46mm in the forefoot) is made up of layers of the brand’s Nitro Elite foam, promising maximum cushioning and energy return. Three carbon plates are sandwiched between the foam layers, with a raised, structured heel seemingly defying gravity.

Up top, a unique laceless mesh upper is reinforced with Puma’s PWRTAPE for a secure, locked-in fit, while the outsole features the brand’s PUMAGRIP technology for multi-surface traction.

If you want to try out this rule-breaking shoe for yourself, the Puma Fast RB Nitro Elite will be available in two colorways for $350 starting August 28. However, there will only be 1,000 pairs of the shoe available worldwide – so be quick!
