Will Scottie Scheffler cap off his great year with the FedEx Cup title?

Will Scottie Scheffler cap off his great year with the FedEx Cup title?

Welcome to the daily ritual of Playing Through – Golf Talk Today.

Each day the crew discusses various elements of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf and more.

Today I want to talk about the number 1 in the world, Scottie Scheffler.

This season was historic for him, with six wins before July 1, a second Green Jacket, two consecutive Players Championships, four of the eight signature events and winning the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Not to mention the $29,228,357 in earnings this season. And the icing on the cake? The former Texas Longhorn also became a father this year.

Scheffler is taking part in the Tour Championship for the third time in a row and is ranked first in the FedEx Cup standings. In the last two years, however, he lost the title to Rory McIlroy in 2022 and Viktor Hovland in 2023.

The 28-year-old was combative, but has not yet reached rock bottom at the FedEx Cup season finale.

All good things come in threes, as the cliché goes. So will Scheffler be able to win for the seventh time and crown the 2024 PGA Tour season with $25 million in prize money?

Earlier this week, Scheffler finished tied for 33rd at the BMW Championship and fourth at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

He wasn’t at his best in Memphis, but he was still able to compete. In the second playoff event, Scheffler seemed to have back problems, which could be the reason for his second-worst finish of the season (the first was T-41 at the US Open).

All signs point to him being the favorite this week, so what do you think? Will Scheffler pull it off and make this season one of the best in PGA Tour history?

Stay tuned for a more detailed explanation of why I believe Scheffler can overcome the hurdle and win.
