It follows news this morning (August 27) that the band have reunited and will embark on a major stadium tour next summer.

After reports of the Britpop giants’ return have been rife for the past few weeks, anticipation reached its peak last weekend when Liam Gallagher used his headlining performance at Reading Festival 2024 on Sunday (August 25) to tease an announcement. Oasis and brother Noel’s social media accounts soon shared the same teaser, telling fans there would be news at 8am today.

After their split 15 years ago and a very public falling out in the years that followed, the Gallagher brothers released a statement saying: “The guns are silent. The stars are aligned. The long wait is over. Come and see. It will not be televised.”

The band’s last performance was on August 22, 2009 at the now defunct V Festival in Weston Park and the band played a set full of hits including “Cigarettes & Alcohol”, “Half The World Away” and an acoustic cover of “Wonderwall”.

The band was then scheduled to perform at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on August 28, but the gig never took place because there was allegedly a fight between the Gallagher brothers shortly before their performance. Noel left the band shortly after.

What followed were years of very public conflict between the brothers. Ten years after the split, Liam reflected on the separation and told Radio-X he “still felt the pain” of the split and claimed that “everything was fine” at the time of the split. Noel, on the other hand, said the split was the result of simmering tensions within the band.

In the new Sky Arts programme, Noel said of the dispute: Noel Gallagher: From the Now: “The Oasis tours were always about the fight anyway. The incident in Paris was really the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

Today the band kicked off the OASIS LIVE 25 world tour, with 14 stadium dates set to take place between Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin next summer. These will be the band’s only shows in Europe in 2025, but a press release states: “Plans are underway to take OASIS LIVE 25 to other continents outside of Europe over the course of the next year.”

Tickets go on sale on Saturday 31 August at 9am BST (8am IST) and are available here for the UK shows and here for the Irish dates.

Attention now turns to whether the band could headline Glastonbury before the tour begins in July.

As it stands, the tour schedule leaves Oasis time to headline Glastonbury 2025 – which takes place the week before, from Wednesday June 25th to Sunday June 29th. Other acts currently tipped to be top performers include Eminem, Rihanna, Sam Fender, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

Bookmakers are speculating that the Gallagher brothers could headline Glasto next summer. OLBG The band currently has odds of 15/8 to headline the Pyramid Stage.

However, some fans believe that Oasis’ official announcement this morning dispels any rumors of a Glastonbury appearance, as it says the dates will be “the band’s exclusive European appearances” – and there is no mention of Glastonbury. In addition, there are reports in The Guardian And Somerset Live also report that the band will not headline the festival next year.

However, this has not stopped fans from speculating and many are convinced that Oasis could be a top act at Worthy Farm again next year.

There is also a lot of speculation about who might support the band on the tour. Possible bands include Blossoms, Kasabian and Manic Street Preachers.

The band has not yet revealed who will complete the line-up alongside Liam and Noel, but newspaper reports this week said that “no other original Oasis member will take part in the reunion” and that “members of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will fill in for the concerts.”

News of the highly anticipated tour – which is said to be raising a whopping £400 million – comes before the band release a 30th anniversary reissue of their groundbreaking 1994 debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ on Friday (August 30).

Liam recently played the record in full on a solo tour to mark the occasion throughout the summer, including his top sets in Reading and Leeds last weekend.

At the southern edition of the two-site festival, the singer dedicated “Half The World Away” (a classic sung by his brother) to “Noel fucking Gallagher.” He further fuelled reunion rumours when he played the same song at his Leeds gig, telling the crowd: “It’s very interesting, isn’t it? We’re in a very interesting situation.”
