Drake State launches pilot course for flooring installation

Huntsville, AL, August 27, 2024 – Drake State Community and Technical College is launching a pilot course on “Skills for Success – Flooring Installation Technician.” This program, the first of its kind in the region, will be offered free of charge to participants. The curriculum is designed to prepare course graduates for successful careers in the flooring installation field.

The course consists of two parts: an online portion and hands-on labs at Drake State University taught by experienced flooring professionals. Participants will receive a recognized credential and build relationships with local and regional employers to meet the increasing demand for skilled flooring technicians.

Applications are now open and close on September 5. Participants will be selected on September 6 and the online course will begin shortly thereafter. The practical part begins on September 19 and the program ends on October 11. Graduates will then receive the necessary tools to start working in the industry immediately.

Once completed, the Flooring Technician pilot course will be offered at all 24 colleges in the Alabama Community College System statewide.

Thanks to funding from the Alabama State Legislature, the ACCS Innovation Center is able to offer scholarships and equip Alabama residents with the skills they need to succeed.

Drake State partners with the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Innovation Center, the Floor Covering Education Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration to offer this program.
