TLC cancels concerts at the last minute due to health emergency of a band member

TLC had to suddenly cancel two planned concerts due to an unexpected hospital stay.

The girl group was scheduled to perform at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, New York, on August 23 and at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on August 24 after traveling to the East Coast from an earlier performance in Ohio.

After arriving for Friday’s performance, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins “suffered from sudden and severe nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramps,” the R&B group said in a statement shared on their Instagram stories on Saturday, August 24.

The 54-year-old “was immediately examined by a doctor and then taken to the hospital for further examination,” where medical professionals diagnosed the singer with a “severe” abdominal obstruction.

Watkins was temporarily hospitalized so her condition could be monitored, although she was expected to be released by the end of the weekend.

In a post on Instagram Friday, New York State Fair organizers initially justified the cancellation by saying Watkins was experiencing “symptoms of food poisoning,” but the account later shared a screenshot of the R&B duo’s statement sharing what happened online.

“Tionne deeply regrets having to cancel these shows and would like to sincerely apologize to all of her fans and the event organizers,” TLC’s statement said. “The decision to cancel was made on the advice of her doctor, who required her to be hospitalized overnight to undergo a CT scan to assess the severity of her condition.”

Following Watkins’ diagnosis, the group told fans that they “feel obligated to reschedule the canceled shows” and apologized “to all fans, especially those who traveled long distances” for Friday and Saturday’s shows.

“The group appreciates the understanding and support,” the couple concluded in their statement.
