When will season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” be released?

Season 4 premieres on Hulu on Tuesday, August 27 at midnight ET/Monday, August 26 at 9 p.m. PT if you’re on the West Coast. New episodes are released every Tuesday at midnight Eastern Time. What is “Just MurderWhat is it about?

Only Murders in the Building (OMITB) follows three strangers obsessed with true crime podcasts who all live in a swanky Upper West Side apartment building, The Arconia. A grisly murder that takes place in the building brings the trio together to try to find their neighbor’s killer, documenting their investigation in their own true crime podcast. After solving the case, the three unlikely musketeers are faced with another death (Season 2) – and another (Season 3) – and now another (Season 4).

How did season 3 end?

Season 3 is about the death of Hollywood actor Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), who was supposed to play the lead role in the Broadway play “Death Rattle”, directed by Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and starring Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin).

Although there were repeated hints that Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep) was the killer, the season three finale revealed not one but two killers behind Ben’s death: Cliff (Wesley Taylor), the aspiring producer of a Nepo baby, and his famous mother, Broadway producer Donna DeMeo (Linda Emond).

Ben ruined the play — which was revamped over the course of the season from “Death Rattle,” a self-serious melodrama, to “Death Rattle Dazzle,” a sequin-laden musical better suited to Oliver’s resume — and mother and son decided on their own that Ben had to go.

Donna was on the verge of dying after her battle with cancer and was determined that her baby’s Broadway debut would not be a flop, so she fed Ben a biscuit laced with rat poison.

After Ben survives the cookie poisoning and realizes that Donna is behind the attempt on his life, Cliff pushes Ben into one of the Arconia’s elevator shafts and sends him to his death to prevent his mother from going to prison.

Like seasons 1 and 2, the season 3 finale ended with the reveal of a new murder victim. Which brings us to…

What is season 4 about?

Just as Ben’s murder was solved and “Death Rattle Dazzle” seemed to be a hit, another murder occurred in the building.

As the premiere festivities continued, Charles’ longtime stunt double Sazz (Jane Lynch) went to Charles’ apartment to get a bottle of wine, but was shot through a window – presumably from an apartment on the other side of the Arconia courtyard.

Sazz wore the same clothes as Charles and his murder leaves the audience wondering if Sazz or Charles was the shooter’s target.

It seems as if Sazz knew her killer, because in the final shot of the season, the stunt double is seen trying to write something on Charles’ kitchen floor with her own blood.

The show’s central trio not only solves Sazz’s murder, but also embarks on a trip to Hollywood when a major producer offers to make a film of their podcast.

In Los Angeles, Charles, Oliver and Mable (Selena Gomez) meet Loretta (Streep) again, who is Oliver’s object of desire. The gang also meets the stars who will play them in the film adaptation of their lives – but more on that later.

The trio cannot stay in Tinsel Town for long, as Sazz’s unsolved murder draws them back to New York and the Arconia. Much to their dismay, they do not return alone. The actors who will play them in the film Only Murders track them back to the Big Apple and stick close to them as they try to solve the latest Arconia murder.

Which actors are returning?

Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are all returning to reprise their roles as crime-solving podcasters. Although she’s technically dead, Lynch is also returning and will likely appear in flashbacks. Fans are thrilled that Streep is returning as Oliver’s love interest Loretta.

According to reports, Paul Rudd will also make some appearances.

Other returning cast members include Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Williams, Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard Morris, Ryan Broussard as Will Putnam, Jackie Hoffman as Uma Heller and Jason Veasey as Jonathan Bridgecroft.

Are there new actors in season 4?

“OMITB” has always attracted A-list celebrities as guest stars, and Season 4 is no exception.

Molly Shannon joins the cast as an influential Hollywood producer who tries to convince Charles, Mabel and Oliver to sign away their life rights.

Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Zach Galifianakis play themselves – or rather, a version of themselves. They are the stars that the Hollywood studio has hired to play the heroes of the series in films. Kumail Nanjiani also joins the cast, apparently as one of the residents of Arconia and possibly a suspect in Sazz’s death.

Will there be a 5th season?

A fifth season of the series has not yet been recorded.

Are Martin Short and Meryl Streep together in real life?

Since Short and Streep played lovers in OMITB, many have wondered if this romance is not only present on screen, but also in their real lives. The pair were spotted holding hands and looking terribly couple-like at the season four premiere, and this after they were seen together at the 2024 Golden Globes. Unfortunately, this is a mystery that still remains unsolved.
