Teenager dismembered in boating accident off New Jersey coast: police

HARVEY CEDARS, NJ — An 18-year-old from Wayne was dismembered in a “tragic boating accident” off the coast of Harvey Cedars on Sunday, police said.

The girl died after being dismembered by the engine of a boat driven by her father, NBC Philadelphia reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

New Jersey State Police told Patch that the girl, Zeina Mahafzah, was on a raft being towed by a boat in the waters off Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars.

As she tried to board the boat, she was hit by the ship’s propeller, police said. The impact left her with fatal injuries.

Harvey Cedars Police said Sunday evening that the investigation into a “tragic boating accident” was still in its early stages.

According to NBC Philadelphia, several traumatized people on board the boat were treated by emergency services.

New Jersey State Police said the incident is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
