When did Leslie Shay die on Chicago Fire?
Shay met her unfortunate end in Chicago Fire Season 2, Episode 22 (“Real Never Waits”). Shay was part of the Firehouse 51 rescue team that responded to a major fire at a boarding school that broke out during Chief Wallace Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) wedding. The boarding school had become a fiery inferno, leaving several civilians in urgent medical need.
Shay jumped into action when she arrived on the scene, but her brave actions indirectly led to her death. Just as Shay was giving first aid to a civilian, an explosion occurred. When the 51 firefighters saw the fire scene, they frantically radioed Shay for help, but they got nothing. The stunning episode disappeared before Fire Station 51 could get an update on Shay.

Following the emotional cliffhanger of season two, the season three premiere (“Always”) revealed that Shay did not survive the explosion after being struck in the head by a falling pipe. A flashback showed Severide and Dawson witnessing the horrific injury. Severide watched in horror as Dawson desperately tried to revive her fallen friend with CPR, but despite her attempts to save her, Shay’s injuries were fatal.

“This house, this family, everything is as strong as ever. Even stronger, because I think deep down we think, ‘Shay would want us to be better. She would want us to support each other,'” Dawson said during the tearful memorial service.
