Highlights of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup This Week in Concacaf

MIAMI– Four Concacaf nations will be in the spotlight this week as the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup™ begins, while Central American Cup and Caribbean Cup clubs continue their path to the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Columbus Crew, Los Angeles FC and Colorado Rapids secured their spots in the 2025 CCC by finishing in the top three in the 2024 Leagues Cup. Sunday’s final pitted two of the top five clubs in the CONCACAF Club Rankings against each other, with the top-ranked Crew beating LAFC 3-1. Colorado Rapids beat Philadelphia Union on penalties in the third-place match to join the list of qualified clubs.

The group stage of the W Champions Cup began last week with LD Alajuelense, San Diego Wave, Club América and Tigres UANL all picking up three points, and it continues next week as the focus in women’s football turns partly to the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Here’s what to see in the region this week:

FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup™

Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and the USA will represent the Concacaf region at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup™ in Colombia. The four nations qualified based on their placings at the 2023 Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship.

The action begins at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday as Mexico face Cameroon and Canada face France. The USA begins its quest for its fourth title on Sunday with a match against Spain. Costa Rica begins its campaign next Monday against the Netherlands.

Concacaf Central American Cup

The final week of the group stage of the Concacaf Central American Cup takes place with eight matches. Twenty of the best teams from the region have entered the competition to crown this year’s champion and secure six berths for the next edition of the CCC.

CS Herediano, LD Alajuelense, Comunicaciones FC and Real Estelí have secured their place in the quarter-finals. The remaining four places will be decided this week, with the top two spots in Group C being decided on Thursday.

Concacaf Caribbean Cup

The 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup resumes on Tuesday with CFU Club champions Arnett Gardens FC kicking off their campaign for the double. Cavalier FC were the only team to pick up three points in the first game week and will look to double their tally on Thursday against Miscellaneous Police FC.

The Caribbean Cup will award three spots in the 2025 CCC when the semi-finalists and third-place finisher are determined later this year.
