40th Cleveland Challenge Cup of Bocce attracts 120 teams to Wickliffe (photos)

WICKLIFFE, Ohio – The 40th Cleveland Challenge Cup of Bocce, sponsored by Serpentini Chevrolet, was held last weekend at the Wickliffe Italian-American Club. The event brought 120 teams to Northeast Ohio to compete for more than $25,000 in prize money.

The teams consisted of world-class players from across the United States and Canada, including Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida, and California. In total, there were 104 teams in the open division and 16 teams in the women’s division.

On Sunday, 3 Men & a Puppy, a local team with a member from Pittsburgh, won the open division and their first event championship. The team consisted of Mike Trivisonno, Rino Rosati, Doug Carter and Ron Reheer. They defeated Big Shot Bob’s, with members from Youngstown and Koppel, Pennsylvania, in the finals, 16-11. BSB’s team consisted of Matt Taylor, Robert Stuart, Dante Delisio and Anthony Copogreco.

In the women’s division, Dirty 30 of Warren repeated its title. The team consisted of Denise Romanchek, Tina Hogue, Leslie Readman and Jolene Marcello. They defeated Crane Memorial of Middletown in the finals 16-10. Crane Memorial consisted of Renee Abbattista, Amy Burnett, Maren Abbattista, Sue Stanley and Teresa Romeo.
