How much will Sony’s new PS5 Pro cost at launch? Given the PS5 Pro specificationsit could be expensive.

The PS5 Pro’s GPU will feature 60 RDNA 3.0 Compute Units (CUs) and can be boosted to a whopping 2.35GHz, for a maximum processing power of 36 TFLOPs (that’s a 5.4% increase over the PS5’s maximum GPU speed of 2.23GHz). Sony has also developed a proprietary DLSS-like upscaler called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

The mid-generation console could cost $599, making it the more expensive and powerful older sibling and completing the trio of high-end PS5 options: the digital PS5 for $449, the PS5 base model with disc drive for $499, and the theoretical PS5 Pro for $599.

Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb has laid out his predictions for the device – which is notable considering Grubb is usually closely tied to what’s going on at Sony. While Grubb’s estimate is just what he thinks, he did say that Sony may hold a State of Play event in September to announce the console:

“All indications are that studios large and small have been given access to devkits and we don’t have to wait long for a reveal and launch. I’ve heard the thing is coming out this year. And recently I heard there will probably be a Sony State of Play at the end of September – not a showcase, but a State of Play.” Grubb said.

“I’ll stick with $600 for it.

“I wanted to go higher, higher is possible. Yes, $700 is a lot, but… I mean, okay, the Xbox Series X 2TB with the drive was just announced for $600. I think Sony could match that price with the PS5 Pro and make Microsoft look very silly.”
