Rob “The Rabbit” Pitts, star of the Netflix series Tex-Mex enginesdied. He was 45.

Pitts died of stomach cancer on Sunday, August 25, his videographer Jeff confirmed. The auto expert left a final message in a YouTube video titled “This Is Goodbye (RIP 7/27/79 – 8/25/24).” Watch it below.

“After SEMA (a Las Vegas auto show) last year, I wasn’t feeling well and I lost weight,” Pitts explains in the video, which features Jacob Lincoln’s “Too Late.” “But I was getting ready to film Season 2 of Tex-Mex engines for Netflix and wanted to be camera ready, so it didn’t bother me too much.”

Pitts explained that while filming the Netflix series, he lost his appetite and had “more and more acid reflux-like symptoms.” He said he went to the emergency room several times “but couldn’t find the source of the problem.” Pitts’ co-star Jaime took him to the emergency room, believing it was a gallbladder problem, and that’s where he learned he had stomach cancer in March.

The Netflix star said he was treated at home “and it was rough,” adding: “More bad days than good, but I persevered. I have a lot to live for and life has turned out the way I wanted it to. Don’t be sad for me… I fulfilled my dream of buying my own store and finished season 2 of (Tex-Mex engines) and marry the love of my life.”

Tex-Mex engines It premiered on Netflix in June 2023. The series followed Pitts and Marcos “Scooter” Carrera as they searched for vintage cars in Mexico and restored them in their workshop in El Paso, Texas.

Carrera paid tribute to Pitts in an Instagram post: “It is with a heavy heart that I write about the passing of my cast member and friend ROB ‘RABBIT’ PITTS. Rest in peace brother, I will truly miss you!!!”
