Mariah Carey’s mother and sister die on the same day in a ‘tragic turn of events’ as heartbroken star issues statement
A heartbroken Mariah Carey has announced that her mother and sister died on the same day.
The “Fantasy” singer announced in a statement on Monday that she had lost both relatives in “a tragic turn of events.”

In a statement to People, Mariah, 55, said: “I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend.
“Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
“I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.
“I am grateful for everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.

The cause of death of her mother Patricia and her sister Alison is not yet known.
Besides Mariah and Alison, Patricia was mother to her son Morgan.
She was an opera singer who trained at the Juilliard School in New York City.
Patricia also worked as a singing teacher and was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey.
The two divorced when Mariah was only three years old.

In her 2020 book “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” the pop music sensation spoke about the complicated relationship between her and her mother.
She wrote: “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother was full of contradictions and competing realities.
“It was never just black and white – it was a whole rainbow of emotions.
“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.
I am grateful for everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.

“A complicated love connects my heart with that of my mother.”
Mariah dedicated part of her memoir to her mother: “And Pat, my mother, who, despite everything, I think, actually did her best.”
“I will always love you as best I can.”
HARD LOVE
Despite her difficulties, Mariah continued to work on her and Patricia’s problems.
During Mariah’s ABC special “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To You,” she and her mother sang “O Come All Ye Faithful” together in an emotional duet.
Like Patricia, Mariah admitted in her memoir that it was difficult to have a relationship with Alison and Morgan.
The “Obsessed” singer claimed that it was “emotionally and physically safer for her to have no contact” with her brother and sister.

After her statement was released, her fans flocked to social media to express their condolences to Mariah and her loved ones.
“We regret your loss and wish you all the healing energy possible,” one wrote.
Another added: “Sending you and your family all the love in the world. We are here for you and you never have to feel like you have to go through this alone. We’ve got your back ALWAYS.”
“This is tragic like no other world. We love you, MiMi,” posted a third.
