NASCAR apparently preparing to launch 24/7 channel “FAST”

An interesting new project from NASCAR could be announced soon. NASCAR seems ready to launch a 24/7 channel. A job posting online hints at a possible streaming service or subscription TV channel.

NASCAR has posted job postings online seeking a new content programming manager to help build a new 24/7 content channel. When asked for comment, NASCAR declined to provide official details but confirmed the job posting is authentic.

The article calls the new channel “NASCAR Channel (FAST)”, which might remind some racing fans of the classic SPEED Channel.

“This individual will be responsible for leveraging NASCAR’s extensive portfolio of new original content and historical video archives for programming on the NASCAR Channel (FAST),” the job posting states. “The manager will work to optimize consumption to drive growth of the emerging digital platform and manage the day-to-day functions of the channel.”

A schedule is being drawn up for the 24/7 channel. It looks like this channel will feature both new, original content and classic archive material.

Of course, NASCAR has been expanding its digital footprint over the past two years. NASCAR Studios will be helping produce the Xfinity Series next year. That facility could very well be part of that new FAST channel. But right now, there isn’t enough information about the channel and what they ultimately plan to do with it.

NASCAR Channel FAST examines streaming platforms

Again, we only have the job posting at the moment, but it tells us a lot about the potential new 24/7 channel. From the responsibilities and the experience required for the position, it’s clear that NASCAR is looking for someone who can help them turn this into a real TV product.

One of the listed tasks:

“Manage the program scheduling system to enter and communicate the live broadcast schedule, ensure all programs and partnership inventory are aired as scheduled, and monitor VOD content options for the digital streaming platforms.”

If they can start producing original content at a high level, then I think it can be very successful. We are in an era of niche TV and media options. Racing fans are hungry for a SPEED Channel returns, especially with the end of FOX NASCAR: Racing Center.

Are you ready for a 24/7 NASCAR channel? And what do you think of the name FAST? NASCAR clearly has big plans.

If they have a studio and the ability to produce quality content, they should do more reporting in-house. Podcasts, shows and historic races all in one place sounds like a win-win for the sport and the fans.
