Elderly man charged with raping 11-year-old girl

Pune: A 67-year-old resident of Khadakwasla was arrested on Sunday for the capture of a 11-year-old girl in his house and raped her on Friday at around 11:30 a.m. as she passed by his house on her way to school.
The matter came to light when the girl narrated the incident to her teachers on Saturday during a workshop on ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ organised by the school. “The teachers alerted the school principal. He then contacted the girl’s parents, who are casual labourers. Her father (43) lodged a complaint with us on Saturday evening,” said Inspector Sachin Wangde of Haveli police.
The officer said, “The arrested man was a farmer until he gave up all work and remained idle at home. His family members were not at home at the time of the incident. The girl was going to her school through an alley where the man lives. He dragged her into his house and raped her. Later he let the girl go and she went to school.”
Wangde said: “When the girl went to school the next day, she attended a counselling workshop. She then told her teachers about the incident. The girl was bleeding at the time and was taken to a hospital.”
The police have registered a case rape and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
